2013-14 National Treasures Basketball Preview

July 29th, 2014

On the eve of the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention, I felt it was an appropriate time to preview 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball, the high-end product from Panini. It has been rumored that Panini will bring two cases of this product with them to the convention for some group breaks after apparently pushing the product back three(3) weeks. It was set to release at the convention but rumors spread throughout the collecting community that it would be not be ready by then and so the release date has been tentatively scheduled for August 20th. Each box this year is supposed to have one(1) base card or parallel, one(1) printing plate and eight(8) autographs or memorabilia cards.

Panini has been tightlipped about this product so far. There are only four blog posts on their website, which feature a glimpse of some of the cards. One noticeable difference this year is that Panini scrapped the jersey number RPA parallel and instead the gold(/25) and platinum(/5) are the same except for the color of the foil around the patch. The RPA(Rookie Patch Auto) is on a horizontal card design like last year and the gold and platinum parallels are a vertical design, as shown below.

Rookie RPA's

From their previews so far it appears as though they have included a few new sets to this years product. Among those are “Night Moves”, “Shoe Swatches and “Kobe All-Rookie Selections”.

Of course National Treasures wouldnt be complete without some Logomen :-)
